The Cincinnati Art Museum is home to artworks of all shapes, sizes, materials, and subjects with something different in each gallery. Sometimes it can be a little difficult to find a starting point. Utilize these resources to help prepare you and your home schoolers for your visit to the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Design and Lead Your Own Tour with MyCAM

MyCAM Art Hunts are digital tours that you customize an experience that revolves around the learning objectives in your lesson plans. Choose from eight thematic art hunts to personalize your museum visit. Once you pick your hunt, you will be asked to pick five works that have been broken into themes. After you have made your selections, print your guide and bring it to the museum with you. Each MyCAM Art Hunt booklet is filled with creative prompts for looking at and responding to artworks in the galleries that can be incorporated as supplementary activities for your lessons. You can also visit the MyCAM Touch Tables in the Schmidlapp wing and customize your tour before exploring the galleries. Once you have made your selections hit “PRINT” and head to the front desk to pick your tour up.

• Public and Family Tours

  There are public tours at 1 p.m.  Tuesday–Sunday and Family ARTventures Tours on Saturday at 2 p.m. On Sundays at 2 p.m., the museum has Family ARTventures Art Stops.

• Home School Tours

  You can schedule Home School tours by going to the CAM website or by calling 513-639-2975. There a wide variety of topics to choose from, including social studies, language arts, math and science, and more! Click here to view reservation information for school/home school tours. Tours must be booked a minimum of one month in advance of the desired tour date.

Our docents look forward to your visit to the museum. The docents are volunteers who prepare in advance for your group's specific tour. They come to the museum just for you and your learners!

One chaperone is required for every 15 children. Tours may not increase by more than 5 participants. If the number of children decreases by 10 or more, please call the Tour Coordinator immediately so that adjustments can be made in the volunteer's schedule.

Also, your tour is scheduled for the hour your group requested. The tour will begin when all of your attendees are present and ready to go. A timely arrival is essential for a full hour tour. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make this a positive, educational, and fun experience for your learners (and our volunteers).

• Art Carts

  Art Carts offer a hands-on way to engage students during their Cincinnati Art Museum experience by including touchable objects that connect the visitor to the art. When scheduling your tour, ask to include an Art Cart for an additional interactive experience. Click here to view what carts are available.

• Rosenthal Education Center

  The REC is a hands-on space in the museum where visitors are able to participate in art making & interactive installations inspired by the exhibitions on view. All ages are welcome. The REC is located on the first floor of the museum, off of the Gallery 101 outside of Great Hall.

• REC Reads

  On Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m., the REC offers an art-themed storytime with sensory activities and an art making activity afterwards. REC Reads is designed for Pre-K students. *Note: REC Reads does not take place the week of Wee Wednesday.

• Wee Wednesdays

  CAM offers interactive art stops in the galleries and an art making activity for 5 and unders on the last Wednesday of the month. Wee Wednesdays take place from 10 a.m.–12 p.m., September through May.

• Studio Courses

  On Thursday evenings, there are weekly studio courses in the REC for visitors of all ages. Registration is required. For 4 sessions, members pay $20 and non-members pay $40. Check the calendar on the CAM website for specific dates and times as these courses are offered during certain months. 

• Creativity and Growth

  Join Amy Tuttle of Indigo Hippo and Stacy Sims of Mindful Music Moments/True Body Project for an exploration of mindfulness, creativity, and growth. Every second saturday from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m., explore a new character strength and ways to cultivate and embody them in our personal and creative lives. This series of workshops is family-friendly, hands-on, fun, and inspiring. The program is free but requires a reservation to attend.

• Artist Workshops

  Visitors of all ages are welcome to join this workshop led by a local artist. Learn about techniques and materials used by professional artists in these engaging, educational and hands-on workshops. Children must be at least 6 years old to participate and students under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult who is also enrolled in the class. Members can attend for $6, and the general public for $12. Reservations are required.

• Sketching Tours

  Want to slow down and practice your master copies? Discover new ways of observing by drawing the museum's collection with the help of a knowledgeable docent. Sketching materials are provided but you are welcome to bring your own. All ages are welcome. This tour is free, but requires a reservation to attend.

• Family First

  Designed with the whole family in mind! Performances, artist demonstrations, storytelling, scavenger hunts, tours, and hands-on art making activities are just the start of the fun for the whole family. There’s a different theme each month, so be sure to come to every one, and bring your best friends! Family First Saturdays occur September through May on the first saturday of the month and is FREE.

• Lectures

  For your more advanced home school students; the museum offers a wide range of lectures featuring guest artists, speakers and scholars from around the world. Click here to explore upcoming lecture topics and find more info. Pricing and registration varies between lectures.

• Moving Images

  Moving Images is a film series that occurs on the first Thursday of every month. Cincinnati Art Museum curators select new and classic films about or by artists and designers. Moving Images is FREE and open to the public and reservations are not required. Click here to see upcoming films!

  CAM offers a wide variety of tours and programs that target all audiences to make our collection accessible and inclusive towards people of all abilities. There are many ways to utilize Cincinnati Art Museum programs and resources while at home or another location.

• LookSeeDo

  Bring the CAM to your classroom with a LookSeeDo workshop. Students will be able look at and discuss works of art from the CAM permanent collection and create a hands-on art project. Topics for Pre-K to 6th grade are available. LookSeeDo is $100 per program and $50 for each additional session on the same day. A maximum of three sessions per day can be scheduled. • Art Palace

  Art Palace is a podcast presented by the Cincinnati Art Museum, where we meet cool people and then talk about art. You can listen to new shows about every two weeks. They are available on the museum’s website & on iTunes. Click here to subscribe and tune in!

• CAM Blog

  Visit the Cincinnati Art Museum homepage and click on the Blog tab on the top right, or click here to read posts that offer behind-the-scenes looks at museum events and exhibitions. New blog posts are added every week.

• Online Exhibitions

  Click here to visit our Google Arts and Culture website for online access to Cincinnati Art Museum artwork, exhibitions, and stories. You can filter through content via popularity, time period, or color of artwork.

  The website also has a feature where you can explore the museum on a virtual tour through an interactive map. The sidebar and Google Arts & Culture homepage allow you to browse partner institutions, to expand learning beyond CAM.
