The Cincinnati Art Museum has immediate opening for a part-time Utility (BOH) employee in the Terrace Café and museum kitchen. This position will be scheduled 15-25 hours per week. Evening and weekend availability is required.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Utility (BOH) employee will assist the kitchen team in various capacities. Utility duties will consist of assisting the Chef, line cooks, Events & Hospitality Manager, Café Manager, and other kitchen team members with their daily tasks. A successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to our daily customer satisfaction goals.

The Utility (BOH) employee will properly clean and sanitize all dishes, glassware, utensils, and pans; be responsible for maintaining the dish room and dish machine. Assists in cleaning other areas of the café as requested. Prepare food to the café specifications and to set up stations for menu, assist with cooking as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Proper operation of dish machines to company and manufacturer specifications.
  • Washes and restocks all dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, and pans.
  • Segregates and removes trash and garbage and places it in designated containers.
  • Breaks down, cleans, and sanitizes the dish machine at the end of a shift in compliance with ServSafe and other safety standards.
  • Transfers supplies and equipment between storage and work areas.
  • Assists in event setup as needed.
  • Set up and stocking stations with all necessary supplies.
  • Answer, report, and follow executive chef or line cooks’ instructions.
  • Clean up station and take care of leftover food.
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers.
  • Ability to speak and hear.
  • Close and distance vision
  • Frequently walking with some standing at times, possibly extended distances; ability to bend and climb stairs when necessary.
  • Frequently lift/carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms in any direction and kneel and stoop repeatedly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school graduate or equivalent vocational training certificate required. A flexible schedule and the ability to work evenings and weekends is required.
  • A degree in or working toward a degree in culinary arts, hospitality, or restaurant management from an accredited culinary school is highly desired. Previous work in food service is a plus.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Cincinnati Art Museum has an opening for a full-time Assistant Director of Adult & Studio Programs. This position is scheduled for 35 hours per week and is salaried exempt.

The Assistant Director of Adult & Studio Programs has two significant areas of responsibility:

  • The development, implementation, and evaluation of public exhibition-related and studio programming (on-site and online) for all ages in the pursuit of lifelong learning through the exploration of art in the Art Museum.
  • Collaboration with the Assistant Director of Gallery & Accessibility Programs on the development, implementation, and evaluation of two large annual programs – Summer Camp and the 10x10 Teen Art Show, and the museum’s monthly CAM Kids Day program – as well as other programs that may arise.

This position works cooperatively with other museum colleagues and the community to develop engaging and accessible programming. This position is considered the museum’s key staff member for expertise related to current theories and practices in public programming.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with teammates in the Division of Learning & Interpretation to develop long-range goals and interim objectives for the Division of Learning & Interpretation. Establishes a shared and systematic approach to accomplishing the goals and objectives established for interpretive programming.
  • Works closely with the Assistant Director of Gallery Programs & Accessibility to create and maintain the interpretive public program schedule for all ages (0-100). Co-directs shared programs including Summer Camp, 10x10 Teen Art Expo, and CAM Kids Days.
  • Generates and manages interpretive programming designed to enhance both exhibitions and the visitor experience through a close working partnership with curators and members of the Division of Learning & Interpretation staff. Manages annual lecture series, CAM Presents series, and studio artmaking program series.
  • Undertakes on an on-going basis, special projects, exhibitions, and programming requiring inter-divisional and inter-departmental planning and development; programs characterized by uniqueness, community involvement, user value, visibility, and impact.
  • Develops and implements new and/or different approaches to interpretation including current learning theory and methodology, new technology and museum “best practices.”
  • Evaluates programs for all ages (0-100) including workshops, classes, lectures, gallery talks, and other activities on an ongoing basis. Seeks out varied methods of evaluation.
  • Formulates and monitors program budgets and carries out all purchasing and payment procedures in compliance with Art Museum policy.
  • Interfaces with all Art Museum divisions on Art Museum-wide events and planning with the intention of insuring program/event success. Works closely with the Marketing department on the promotion of programs and with Visitor Services department to maintain registration numbers.
  • Nurtures and supports ongoing community-based collaborations and actively seeks out new collaborations with other institutions and community organizations designed to create true partnerships and on-going commitments contributing to the overall quality of life in the Greater Cincinnati region.
  • Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates programming in accordance with museum “best practices.”
  • Generates reports on program statistics, accomplishments, offering, direction, needs, budget, etc.
  • Works closely with the Director of Learning & Interpretation and the Philanthropy Division providing narrative content and statistics needed for grant proposal preparation and final reports.
  • Participates in national, regional, and statewide museum conferences, workshops and professional growth seminars related to interpretive programming, interpretation, outreach, and visitor needs.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Learning & Interpretation.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in art history, art education, or museum education is required.
  • Five years of related experience, especially in museum education, art education, public programming, and/or community-based collaborations.
  • Must have excellent and professional communication skills, both written and oral.
  • The ability to effectively present information and respond to visitors’ needs is central to this position.
  • Strong organizational skills; must be able to manage numerous projects simultaneously and to work independently and at a high level of productivity in a very busy office.
  • Cooperates in a teamwork fashion with all co-workers to accomplish goals.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Cincinnati Art Museum currently has an immediate opening for a full-time Facility Support Team (FST) Member in the Facility department. This position includes benefits and is scheduled for 40 hours per week and will require availability for some nights and weekends.

The FST Member will provide overall cleaning and sanitation of the museum building and assist in other functions, such as furniture moving, item pick-up and delivery to and from the museum warehouse, fulfilling special work orders, and aid in the execution of museum special events. This position works under direct and indirect supervision with a focus on maintaining the museum resulting in a clean, healthy, and safe indoor and outdoor environment for visitors and staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities describe the general nature of work for employees in this position, but this is not intended as an exclusive or all-inclusive inventory of all job functions.

  • Perform general custodial duties, including cleaning and sanitation of restrooms, galleries, office areas, café, auditoriums, entrance plaza, courtyards, dock, hallways, stairs, and outside areas when used. Empty, clean and maintain trash cans.
  • Transport, set-up, and tear down of special event furniture and accessories. Remove trash and clean up after all events.
  • Maintain floors by proper cleaning, including but not limited to vacuuming, dust mopping, damp mopping, waxing, and buffing all hard surface floors.
  • Handle appropriate supplies and products for the various job duties.
  • Handle labor intensive work orders, including but not limited to furniture moving, pickups and deliveries for CAM departments.
  • Handle outside pickups and deliveries using museum vehicles or rented equipment.
  • Perform other related job duties as required or assigned by management.


REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma and at least one year of experience in a related position or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Candidates must be able to efficiently manage their work hours and responsibilities, work well independently and as a team member, and effectively communicate with their supervisor and coworkers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Incumbent will be required to walk and move about the entire museum on foot, and work will include long periods of standing, and use of stairs as needed. Lifting and moving of items of moderate weight (at least 50 pounds) required.

Will generally be inside the museum location. May be required to perform certain aspects of assigned duties outside of museum location. May be subject to changes in work environment due to outside weather conditions.

Working under the direction of the Hospitality Manager, duties include, but are not limited to the following:  

  • Serve food and beverages to guests.
  • Clean and prepare the dining areas.
  • Greet and make all guests feel welcome at the museum.
  • Respond to guest inquiries and requests in a timely fashion.
  • Knowledge of room setup, food safety standards, and food presentation setup.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Uphold standards of service through different catering events offered.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Cincinnati Art Museum has an immediate opening for part-time Visitor Services Assistants (VSA) in the Visitor Services Department on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and some weekends.

VSAs will greet visitors and tour groups, sell tickets, memberships and coffee, answer telephones, balance daily deposits, and keep current on museum events. This role is responsible for ensuring visitors are alerted to all the tools needed for a successful visit. The VSA is also responsible for keeping CAM goals and priorities in mind when welcoming visitors to the museum.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Working under the direction of the Visitor Services Coordinator (VSC), duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrate an ability to engage with all guests from a wide range of backgrounds, providing the highest quality customer service.
  • Ensure each visitor or group feels welcomed and receives a cheerful and warm greeting by Visitor Services immediately upon entering CAM.
  • Ensure the lobbies and coatrooms are clean and orderly.
  • Answer a wide variety of visitor’s questions in person and over the phone. Responsible for balancing receiving visitors at the desk and over the phone.
  • Demonstrate an ability to deal with customer feedback with grace and professionalism. Assist in de-escalating visitor matters.
  • Play an active role in reaching CAM strategic goals through promotion of all art engagement opportunities and encouraging return visits.
  • Play an active role in reaching CAM financial goals through promotion of the coffee bar, café, paid programming, membership, exhibition tickets, etc.
  • Ensure back-of-house activities are operated with excellence and attention to detail with team goals in mind.
  • Ensure integrity of daily balancing and handling of all payments, as well as maintaining the confidentiality of all sensitive information. Conducting member sales and renewals with special attention to correct data entry.
  • Support the VSC with onboarding, training, and skill development of new team members.
  • Manage assigned projects in timely manner with attention to detail while prioritizing the visitor experience. Assist other departments with projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent education required.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills are a must.
  • Candidate must be dependable and work well with the public.
  • Ability to read, examine, and interpret general business documents, effectively communicate with visitors in person and on phone calls, and present information and respond to questions from visitors.
  • Good computer and writing skills necessary.

Internship Opportunities

INTERNSHIP POSITION SUMMARY

The Cincinnati Art Museum has an opening for a part-time Special Events & Hospitality Intern. The intern will assist with the planning and execution of weddings, corporate, social, internal museum events, and daily café operations. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to preparing event forms, developing floor plans, assisting with the design of corporate packages, supporting the Special Event Coordinators and Event Captain the day of events, and supporting the hospitality department in daily functions. The candidate must have evening and weekend availability.

The Special Events & Hospitality Intern will see firsthand how private, internal, and philanthropic events come together. The intern will work alongside the Special Event Coordinator(s) and Event Captain in serving as a helping hand in the museum’s entire hospitality department including events, catering, and the café.

This paid internship will be in the fall of 2024 for 12 weeks September through November and scheduled 15-20 hours per week.

 

ESSENTIAL INTERNSHIP FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Working under the overall direction of the Events & Hospitality Manager and the Special Events Coordinator(s), duties include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Aid with the planning, implementation, and follow-up related to all CAM fundraising events held throughout the year.
  • Assist with event preparation, production, execution, management, and tear down.
  • Coordinate with various vendors for events.
  • Manage RSVP lists for CAM events, welcoming and registering guests at internal & external CAM events.
  • Assist with general administrative needs as they arise.
  • Research local venue market and trends.
  • Work with the Chef for new menu items and event menus.
  • Support and aid the events and café team in daily operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  • Upper-level undergraduate student or new graduate with a degree in events planning, hospitality, or in a related program or field of study.
  • Previous experience in planning and managing event logistics, budgets, and strategy preferred.
  • Must be a team player with strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with various and diverse groups of people.
  • Candidate must be willing to work a flexible schedule. Evening and weekend availability is required.
  • Strong ability to multi-task while quickly adapting to a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in hospitality and previous experience working with hospitality software and/or point-of-sale (POS) systems a plus.

 

Pay rate: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
